Vermiculite is a natural mineral that is used in agriculture, horticulture and construction. It is a clay micaceous material that is formed as a result of hydrothermal treatment of volcanic rocks or shales.

One of the features of vermiculite is its ability to hydrophobically absorb water 300 percent of its weight and the ability to absorb water several times its own weight. This allows the use of vermiculite as a drainage material, as well as as a means to retain moisture in the soil.

Vermiculite has all the properties of mica, namely, it is a good electrical, heat and sound insulation. Vermiculite does not support gorenje and does not melt to a temperature of 1200 ° C, and therefore it is used as a filler of building slabs designed to ensure fire safety.

In addition, vermiculite has thermal insulation properties, which makes it useful for use in construction. It can also be used as an additive to the soil to improve its structure and nutritional properties for plants.

Vermiculite is considered a safe material for use, does not contain harmful chemicals and has no smell.

Construction

Oil industry

Types of Vermiculite

  • 3. Crude vermiculite is the primary product obtained as a result of ore mining. It has a high density and is not suitable for use as a thermal insulation material.

  • 4. Expanded vermiculite is processed raw vermiculite that is subjected to high temperature treatment. As a result of processing, the material significantly increases its volume, becomes lighter and acquires good thermal insulation properties. Expanded vermiculite is used as a filler in building materials such as plaster, concrete and brick.

  • 5. Composite vermiculite is expanded vermiculite mixed with other materials such as cement, clay or polymers. Composite vermiculite is used in the production of various products, such as ceramic tiles, bricks and pipes.

  • 6. Filter vermiculite is an expanded vermiculite that is used as a filter in industry and agriculture. It is used to purify water, oil, gas and other liquids from contaminants and suspended particles.

  • 7. Garden vermiculite is an expanded vermiculite that is used in horticulture and horticulture to improve the soil and increase yields. It contains a lot of nutrients and helps to retain moisture in the soil.
